In July 2023, I began sharing stories I had collected while caddying - the best job in the world.
Firstly, apologies for missing last week’s Substack entry for the Caddyshack series. In an attempt to relocate from the top of the UK to the bottom this weekend, the entry is coming out LATE. No matter, due to the Saturday post date of Caddyshack #11 and tomorrow bringing #12 - we’re still on track.
The next few weeks are all planned out, but this entry was actually set to be an appreciation of the course itself, adding some memorable pictures I gathered during my summer in Nova Scotia.
Cabot is the sort of course where professional photographers would have a field day, or week, or month, especially the Cliffs. Mine were spur-of-the-moment, iPhone captures, but all have a thousand words to accompany them, as the saying goes.
The Nest was the genius solution to evening golf. A 10 hole par three course ranging from 80 yard holes to 210 on the last, when you don’t fancy 18 or even 9 but you like your chances at a par three shootout, some money games or a few wedge shots. Overlooking the Cliffs, I won some money here. Never caddied on it, but definitely could’ve.

The above is one of the best pictures I got. The 15th at Cliffs, maybe my favourite hole in the world. So many birdies. Sunset was perfect. Course pristine. Good company. Self-actualized.
The differences between the Links and Cliffs are stark despite being just two miles apart. The fescue grass shimmering with the wind towards the 13th fairway provides a good picture, with the coastline visible all the way around.
Week Ending 23rd July 2023
- Golf played - 27 holes all at the Cliffs course, all after work, adding a few more steps, shoutout Dennis and Duggy.
- Cabot Links breakfasts eaten - 4 - my partner Meg worked in the restaurant. Free real estate. Great start to the day.
- US bills acquired - many. Good week from our friends flying the Star-Spangled banner.
Welcome back! And stay tuned, see you next Sunday.
